Lead by Sophia Benrud, our Mapping Midwest Farmers of Color Project includes a directory and a geographic map. It connects farmers of color socially, increases our visibility, provides opportunities for marketing & sales, and collects information for organizing and resource development opportunities. Our geographic map gives us a visual representation of where we are located, and the farmer profiles provide info about what we are working on. Our map and directory includes farmers of color in MN, WI, IL, MI, MO, IA, IN, OH and the team aims to expand in future months to cover the entire region. We'll be incorporating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into this project in 2025!
